‘I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.’
(1 Timothy 2:1-2 NLT).
Prayer is a powerful way to invite God’s presence into your workplace. With prayer we can see huge shifts in atmosphere.
Do you regularly pray for your coworkers and leaders?
How might prayer transform the atmosphere in your workplace?
Some ways that you could pray for your place of work are baked right into scripture:
Help for colleagues
Intercession for colleagues
Give thanks for colleagues
Leadership prayers
You may be in the office and hear of a situation happening with your colleague and not be in a position to offer some help or advice in the moment. But you can pray.
You may become aware of a circumstance that your coworker is going through in their health, or their family, and not feel that now is the time to offer your help or advice. But you can intercede for them in the privacy of your own personal prayers.
Perhaps one of the most beautiful prayers you can pray for your workplace are prayers of thanksgiving for the people you get to see every day. Offering thanks to God for each individual can build strong bond between you and a positive, united environment.
Praying for the leaders in your workplace is so powerful. It enables you to fight for a peaceful, quiet, godly and dignified working life. You may not agree with all that your leaders do or say but you can certainly pray for them, that God would steer their leadership in godly directions and cause them to make the best decisions for the workplace.
Lift up your workplace, coworkers, and leaders in prayer. Pray for their well-being, wisdom, and for God to work in their lives.
Take five minutes during your day to silently pray over your workplace – perhaps at the very beginning of your working day? If appropriate, consider inviting a fellow believer at work to join you in prayer. Remember, where two or more are gathered in His name, there He is in the midst of us.
Friends, I truly hope that something across these 5 days of devotion has spoken to you and encouraged you. Working in a place with multiple different characters and personalities can be a challenge at times but with God’s guidance and help, we can be a positive and godly influence on our places of work.
God bless you.
