It’s always a privilege to step beyond our office walls and into the lives of others – and that’s exactly what our CBN UK Community Outreach Team has been doing over the past few months.
Each visit to local care homes has become a treasured opportunity to sit with residents, listen to their stories, and share laughter, encouragement, and faith together. These moments remind us that true ministry often happens in the simplest acts of presence and compassion.
Recently, Rayeesa, one of our team members, joined the outreach for the very first time – and her experience left a lasting impression.
Read on to discover how a recent visit touched her heart and deepened her perspective on community, connection, and care.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:7-8
I was excited to be joining a fellow colleague and chaplain on her visit to a local care home. As I sat in the car, I prayed that God would use us as his hands, feet and mouth to whoever needed it.
We were first welcomed by staff and then I caught the smile of a resident sat in her chair in the perfect position to see everyone coming in, giving her the advantage of greeting them. Sarah said hello to her and introduced me. ‘Hello’ I said, and introduced myself, ‘it’s lovely to meet you, this is my first time visiting here.’
‘Well then you had better take a seat’ she said as she pointed to the empty chair next to her. We had a lovely chat as she told me a little about her former experience as a nurse. She recalled many happy memories, and I could see that the same love and care for others was very much still active in her. Listening to people’s stories is both a privilege and a joy.
I shadowed Sarah to our next resident who was happy to welcome us and chat. I listened, watched, and saw how this simple interaction was energising her. Love has no limits, and I knew that as we sat and chatted about the week and how she was doing, we were part of a simple but beautiful exchange of God’s love through our words and actions and simply our presence in the room. We asked if we could pray for her and she said yes, so we prayed.
The time seemed to fly by as we visited other residents, some who were very happy to see us. It was so lovely to see them open up to us and share some of their stories. One lady who knew of Jesus but said that she didn’t know him for herself. She had been brought up to go to Church and the like. But when we asked when she knew for herself that God was real, her personal Saviour, she said she didn’t know that but would like to.
I could see The Holy Spirit was moving in her heart and mind. I shared a bit of my story, coming from a Muslim home and how I met Jesus personally one day because I wanted to know The Truth about who God is. I told her that that moment changed my life and was the best decision of my life. She asked for prayer, and we prayed for her. As our eyes were closed, I felt her hand reach out to mine and we held hands. I felt her squeeze my hand as if to say, ‘thank you’. I know we were meant to be there at that very moment, to share The Gospel with her.
Our God is so good.
