Finding Hope in Despair - Day Four

‘For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’

(Jeremiah 29:11 NLT)

When you’re in the depths of despair, life can often feel hopeless.

Day after day draws on and you wonder when the pain and suffering of abuse will end. Even if you are not actively being abused now, the remnants of the effects of abuse can linger long after the abuse has stopped.

I know it is hard to imagine but there is a future for you. God’s plans for you include hope and a future.

This doesn’t mean that life will be free from pain. Pain is a human experience that none of us can escape this side of Heaven. But God is always working for your good, even in the darkest times.

Consider the life of Joseph. This historical biblical figure suffered much abuse and mistreatment at the hands of those who were jealous of him, wanted him for themselves and who had simply forgotten him.

However, time and time again, the Lord showed Himself faithful to Joseph. He never forgot him and was always with him. God had a great plan for Joseph’s life and even though it may have looked unimaginable from the outside, inside God was always at work in his life.

Life and circumstances may be very troubling and painful for you right now, but you can trust that God has a purpose for your life. He does not leave His children helpless and hopeless; He comes to their aid when they cry out to Him.

I encourage you to find a verse that speaks to you about hope. Carry this scripture with you throughout the day. When feelings of despair arise, reach out to that God given lifeline of trust – that place of counsel and also declare the God given promise aloud or in your heart and watch God move on your behalf.

Father God,

I am so grateful that, even when things look completely desperate and irrevocably dark in my life, you have a plan for my good.

I surrender my life to you and ask that you will salvage my life from the pit of despair I find myself in right now. Without you I have no hope but, with you, I have unending hope.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
