Making Superbook Accessible to All: An Interview with Jay Thomas-Morton

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13 NLT)

It’s a powerful promise – but the verses that follow pose a vital challenge:

“But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him?
And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him?
And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?
And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent?
That is why the Scriptures say,
‘How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!’
(Romans 10:14-15 NLT)

At CBN UK, we’ve taken that challenge to heart – especially when it comes to children who are deaf. That’s why we set out to make Superbook accessible to everyone, including young viewers who use British Sign Language (BSL).

We didn’t have the in-house expertise to take on this task, so we began searching for someone who could help bring the Gospel to life through BSL. And that’s when God led us to Jay Thomas-Morton.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Jay’s Passion: Bringing the Gospel to Deaf Children

From the moment we met Jay, we knew he was the right fit. Kind, humble, and passionate about reaching deaf children with the message of Jesus, Jay brought something truly special to this project. What made his contribution even more powerful was that Jay is deaf himself – and so are his three sons.

As a family, they watched every episode of Superbook Season 1, not just once but several times – carefully evaluating which parts were easy to understand and which parts needed clearer explanation. This collaborative process helped Jay shape a version of each episode that’s not only accurate but exciting and engaging for deaf children.

Thanks to Jay’s thoughtful approach and commitment to excellence, every episode of Superbook Season 1 has now been translated into British Sign Language (BSL)! Episodes will be rolling out in the coming days on our YouTube channel – making the stories of the Bible accessible in a whole new way. Watch here.

Jay told us during his interview that accessibility is crucial to the Gospel. Too often, deaf children are left dependent on family members to interpret or explain what they see. By providing Superbook in BSL, we’ve created a truly inclusive experience – allowing deaf children to fully engage with God’s Word, on their own terms.

We are deeply grateful to Jay for his dedication and talent, and we also want to thank our Founders and generous partners, whose support made this possible. Without your prayers and financial gifts, we couldn’t have invested in such essential work.
