Holy Spirit

The Fruit of the Holy Spirit

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

(Galatians 5:22–23 NLT)

Life in the Spirit isn’t static – it’s marked by growth. Real, visible, heart-deep transformation.

When we first said yes to Jesus, many of us brought with us habits, reactions, and attitudes that didn’t exactly reflect the character of God. But here’s the beautiful truth: the moment the Holy Spirit took up residence in our lives, He began a quiet, powerful work in us – shaping us from the inside out.

He produces fruit in us that we simply can’t grow on our own.

Maybe once, getting cut off in traffic would’ve triggered a storm of shouting, frustration, and horn-honking fury. But now? You pause. You breathe. And maybe – just maybe – you even pray for that driver instead.

That’s not willpower. That’s Spirit power.

Or perhaps where you used to gossip about that one coworker who drives you up the wall, you now feel a nudge toward compassion. You hold your tongue. You offer grace. You choose love over irritation.

That’s the evidence of fruit growing.

The apostle Paul lists the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5 – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These aren’t self-improvement goals. They’re the natural result of a life surrendered to the Holy Spirit.

We don’t manufacture this fruit – we bear it, as we stay connected to the Vine.

A great way to grow? Try choosing just one fruit each day to focus on. Ask God to help you live it out. Whether it’s patience on a tough day, or gentleness in a tense conversation, invite the Holy Spirit to guide your reactions and responses.

You might be surprised at how much He can grow in you when you simply let Him.

Scripture reminds us there’s no law against the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:23) – in other words, the world needs more of it. So, let’s show it off. Not for our own glory, but as a witness to what God is doing in us.

Because Spirit-filled growth isn’t just possible – it’s inevitable, when we yield to His leading.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Prayer Prompts

  • Pray and ask God which of the fruits are most evident in your life.
  • Pray and ask God which fruits you need to cultivate more through the Spirit’s help.
