“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
(Matthew 5:14-16 NIV)
As Christians, we are called to be a light in every space we enter.
Our presence, the way we interact with others, even the content we share online should reflect Christ’s love and truth. This does not mean we have to be religious all the time, but it does mean we should be intentional about reflecting our faith in how we engage with the world.
Imagine visually zooming out on the country you live in and being able to perceive the nation from a bird’s eye view. Now imagine each follower of Jesus lighting up, like a star. Obviously, depending on which nation you are zooming out of, there will be a different number of lights that appear.
Finally, imagine each of those lit up people connecting to and rubbing shoulders with an individual who does not follow Jesus and that light transferring to that person if they accept Jesus.
Soon enough, every person will be reached, and every person will have had the opportunity to hear bout and make their own decision about Jesus.
This is our mission, friends.
We must shine so brightly for Christ that those around us who do not know Him cannot help but learn about Him and make their own, personal decision about Him.
If even a fraction of the lit-up individuals shrinks back from sharing what they have with those they do life in proximity to, the message stops and falls flat.
God will make a way for His light to shine, how much more wonderful to be an active part of sharing it, rather than hiding it under the guise of timidity or fear.
Again, this does not mean overwhelming those we do life with with the truth of Jesus, but rather, faithfully and consistently being a light in this dark world.
Commit to finding innovative ways to communicate your faith. Let your light shine in all of its multi-coloured brilliance. Remember, the world needs more Christians who are alive with the light of Christ, not merely numbers in our churches on a Sunday.
Application:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
