Sacred Message, Modern Methods

Sacred Message, Modern Methods - Day Two

“I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.”

(1 Corinthians 9:22 NIV)

The Apostle Paul is a brilliant example of what it means to share the Gospel message of Jesus Christ far and wide.

He was willing to adapt his methods to reach all people groups. His ultimate message never changed – He preached Christ crucified and nothing else. But he was able to adapt the methods he used to reach as many people as he came into contact with.

‘To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak.’

(1 Corinthians 9:20-22 NIV)

Paul began many of his messages and defenses by drawing a parallel between himself and the audience to which he was speaking. He captured their hearts through similarities then deposited the truth of the Gospel which was new to them.

He never behaved like he knew it all or like he was above anyone else. He humbled himself to the position of a slave (self-professed – see 1 Corinthians 9:19!) so as to reach as many people as he possibly could.

In a similar vein, we are called to adapt and embrace new ways to communicate the timeless message of the Gospel to the people we come into contact with.

The message is sacred. Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world is and will always be what we preach, but the method through which we communicate this truth is changeable.

We must innovate new and relevant ways to communicate the Gospel in this world that is ever-changing.

With the rise of social media, podcasts, YouTube, and other popular platforms, we have been provided with many innovative tools to share Christ’s love. Let’s harness them and maximise their potential to spread the Gospel to the furthest ends of the earth.

Application:

  • Think about how you can use the platforms you have in creative ways to share your faith.
  • Write or record a personal testimony and share it with someone who doesn’t yet know Jesus.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
