In a world where technology giants shape global politics, artificial intelligence revolutionises industries, and the competition to “win the race” dominates headlines, one must ask: Where is the Church?
If I were to ask friends or even strangers, I doubt many would describe Christian communities as innovative. So what happened?
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:7-8
Like a hidden treasure waiting to be rediscovered, I believe there are men and women – creatives, pioneers, and thought leaders – called to shape the world for good, empowered by the Gospel. History is full of Christian innovators who stepped into the unknown, working with limited resources to create something transformative:
Johannes Gutenberg – Inventor of the Printing Press, revolutionising access to scripture.
William Tyndale – Translator and Publisher of the English Bible, ensuring people could read God’s Word for themselves.
C.S. Lewis – Christian Apologist and Literary Innovator, using storytelling to communicate profound biblical truths.
These figures embodied faith-fuelled innovation, creating what had never existed before. Their work shaped history.
I believe it’s time to pick up that mantle again. The embers may be faint, but they are waiting to be ignited. So, how do we reclaim the spirit of innovation?
“There is nothing new under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 1:9) But what about above the sun?
When we seek heaven’s perspective, we move beyond earthly limitations and into God’s realm of creativity. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways.” (Isaiah 55:8)
True innovation comes when we tap into God’s vision, bringing His thoughts, ideas, and strategies into our world.
Just as God breathed life into Adam, we need God’s breath to revive and download divine ideas into creation. Innovation begins in Heaven and is executed on earth.
Visionary leaders see the bigger picture – new horizons, frontiers, and solutions. But they also need grounded execution. Staying in the clouds for too long creates lofty dizziness – ideas without action.
Innovation is about building the plane while flying it – testing, refining, and moving forward with faith. It requires both big-picture thinking and real-world application.
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
We are called to create with excellence, reflecting God’s nature. Innovation isn’t about perfection; it’s about giving our best. A half-hearted “that will do” mindset does not honour God. Excellence matters.
Mediocrity scales exponentially; excellence scales incrementally. Let’s be a people who push boundaries, challenge norms, and pursue God-honouring creativity.
Innovation isn’t about discarding the old – it’s about building upon it.
Pat Robertson, CBN’s founder, pioneered The 700 Club by inviting 700 people to give $10 monthly. That small step of faith became a global ministry, reaching millions through TV, digital platforms, and 24/7 prayer support.
Our past informs our future. God calls us to make a way where there is no way.
The Church has a rich history of innovation, and our call to create has never changed.
In turn, the vision God gives us will always exceed our resources, but faith demands action. We are called to pioneer, experiment, test, fail, and innovate – relentlessly.
The world desperately needs the hope of Jesus. We cannot afford to stand still. Innovation is not just about creativity – it is about taking bold steps of faith, embracing new methods, and advancing the Gospel in ways that impact lives.
As the world evolves, so must our approach. We must be adaptable, courageous, and forward-thinking, using every available tool – media, technology, and community outreach – to fulfil the Great Commission.
With faith and creativity, let’s bring the light of hope to every corner of the world. Let’s innovate again – not for the sake of change, but for the sake of souls.
