At the European Congress on Evangelism, where faith leaders and believers gathered from across the continent, we had the opportunity to sit down with Will Graham of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (and grandson of the legendary Billy Graham) whose passion for evangelism and discipleship ran deep. His message was clear: boldness in following Jesus is not optional – it’s essential.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:7-8
In our conversation, Will spoke earnestly about the growing number of young people coming to faith in Christ. It’s a trend he views with both great hope and sincere responsibility. While moments of decision at large events are powerful, he emphasised the importance of what happens next – the discipleship, the follow-up, and the intentional grounding in local church life.
For those new to the faith, Will’s advice was straightforward: connect with a local church community, share your decision with someone who can walk alongside you, and begin reading the Bible with an open heart. While technology offers easy access to Scripture, he stressed that nothing replaces the personal experience of listening for God’s voice through His Word.
As the conversation turned to emotional responses often seen in evangelistic settings, he acknowledged the energy and enthusiasm of such moments but cautioned against mistaking emotion for transformation. He urged a balance – allowing room for celebration, yes, but first prioritising the serious and sacred act of responding to the Gospel with intention and clarity.
One of the most powerful takeaways from the discussion was the reminder that God uses everyday people – not just trained leaders or pastors. Whether through formal roles or quiet, faithful obedience, every believer has a part to play in pointing others to Christ. What matters most is not status or credentials, but a willing and available heart.
As the Congress came to a close, the focus shifted to what happens after the final session – how attendees could carry the fire of what they’d experienced back to their churches and communities. The call wasn’t to simply reminisce about a powerful few days, but to put faith into action. Those in ministry, parachurch organisations, and local congregations were all challenged to live out the commission to go and tell others – just as the early apostles did.
What stood out most during our time together was a consistent theme of courage. It became clear that true discipleship is marked by boldness – the kind that doesn’t rely on education, titles, or public approval, but on the unmistakable evidence of having been with Jesus.
This conversation served as a timely encouragement: that God is still calling, still sending, and still using people – especially the young and the willing – to change the world, one life at a time.
