We’re thrilled to celebrate the launch of our very first food pantry in the UK – right in the heart of Wigan – in partnership with The Message Trust and Way Church. This milestone is more than a new initiative; it’s a bold step forward in our mission to combat hunger and bring hope to communities across the nation.
But this pantry is about more than food. It’s about restoring dignity, building relationships, and meeting real, human needs – both physical and spiritual. It’s a space where people feel welcome, heard, and cared for.
To give you a glimpse into the heart behind the Grocery Store, we caught up with Lynn, one of the store’s dedicated managers.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Straight away Lynn shares how much she enjoys working at the store. Beaming, she tells us that she thanks God every day for the chance to meet people, listen to their stories, and when it’s right – pray with them.
She recalls a powerful moment when a man walked into the store overwhelmed by struggles. As he took in the warm atmosphere – the music, the kindness of volunteers, the peace in the room – he broke down in tears. Something sacred was happening, right there between the shelves.
That’s the heartbeat of the Grocery Store: people come for food but often leave with far more – a word of encouragement, a sense of belonging, even a first step toward faith.
Lynn and the volunteers at the Grocery Store invite people to church, to coffee mornings, to Alpha and more, ensuring that every visit lets people know that they are welcome here for more than groceries. Ultimately, the hope is that visitors will encounter Jesus – the One who truly satisfies.
God is moving in this vibrant community hub. Through simple conversations, shared cups of tea, and quiet prayers, His love is being poured out daily. Every event, every smile, every act of service points back to Jesus – the hope of the world.
Lynn, thank you for your compassion, your prayers, and your faithfulness. Your presence at the Grocery Store is changing lives – one conversation, one prayer, one soul at a time.
