Starting the New Year in Faith: Trusting God’s Promises

Isaiah 43:18-19 - “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” 

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Are You Feeling Anxious About the New Year?

Stepping into a new year can feel daunting. Perhaps you’re beginning with uncertainty, or maybe 2025 hasn’t gone as you had hoped. 

The celebrations have come to a close, the Christmas lights are being packed away, and everything can feel a little unsettling. Maybe the Christmas season has placed strain on your finances, your relationships, or your mental wellbeing. 

If this resonates with you, know that you are not alone. No matter how you feel about the year ahead, make this a year of relying on God’s promises. His Word brings life and truth when we feel overwhelmed. 

In Psalm 119:105 we read, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
This is a beautiful truth I so often cling to. When we surrender everything to Him and allow His Word to guide us through all that this year may bring, even though we are not promised a life without trials, we can rest in the truth that He will surely guide us. He is our firm foundation and the light on our path. 

Start the New Year With Scripture

As we begin this new year, I would love to share some scriptures with you. Allow them to wash over you and stand firm on them. Declare His goodness and start the year grounded in faith. 

  • Proverbs 3:5–6– “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
  • Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
  • Lamentations 3:22–23 – “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
  • Isaiah 26:3 – “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”
  • Joshua 1:9 – “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
