The Real Joy

The True Meaning of Christmas

‘For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given…’

(Isaiah 9:6, NIV)

Christmas truly is a magical season – a time when twinkling lights fill our homes, familiar carols lift our spirits, and families gather around tables to share meals made with love. We decorate, we exchange gifts, and we delight in traditions that point us back to the greatest celebration of all: the birth of our Saviour.

But I also know that this picture-perfect scene doesn’t reflect everyone’s reality. For some, Christmas can feel quiet, heavy, or even lonely. Not everyone is surrounded by family, abundance, or the comforts portrayed in festive movies and store windows.

And yet, there is one precious truth that belongs to every single one of us, no matter our circumstances: the hope of Jesus.

The salvation He came to bring is a gift freely offered – one that doesn’t require wealth, status, or a beautifully decorated home.

You don’t need a pile of presents to know His love.

You don’t need grand celebrations to experience His joy.

All He asks for is an open and willing heart to receive the redemption He so graciously provides.

So, if you feel swept up in the pressure of holiday expectations – or discouraged by what you lack – pause for a moment. Breathe. Remember what Christmas truly commemorates.

Even the word Christmas carries His name. Christ is the centre, the purpose, the heartbeat of this season.

Yes, gifts are wonderful.
Yes, time with loved ones is a blessing.
Yes, good food is a delight.

But above all these things, the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ is the deepest and truest joy of Christmas.

May His peace, His presence, and His hope fill your heart this season – wherever you are, and whatever your Christmas looks like.

If your heart could use a little extra encouragement this Christmas, we’d love to walk with you.

Our 5-day devotional, Miracles Happen, takes you on a hopeful journey through some of the most powerful miracles in Scripture – each one a reminder that God’s love, presence, and power are still at work today.

Let these stories lift your spirits, strengthen your faith, and refocus your heart on the true wonder of Christmas.

Come join us and experience the miracles for yourself.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
